Hansel's so hot right now!

Long time no sleep!

I mean, no see.

Work has been gruelling. I've been up every morning at 5am, and find myself with only 1.5 to 2.5 hours of free time, each day. I've learned that the weather forecasters, can only predict sunshine. So far, they've been right 3 out of 17 times, whether it was going to rain or not. Two of those times would add up to about 10 minutes of actual rain.

I've been working hard at times, and hardly working at others, but I haven't been near the computer at all. My only time has been playing NHL 2003, to relax my mind.

This weekend, Tink and I, went to Port Hope to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Capitol Theatre. Her friend Tama and her sister Nomi had brought the gender bending tale to their community, and we decided to go up and see it. It was excellent. There was talk that they would take the show to Peterborough, and if it goes through, I definetely encourage everyone in the area to go see it. The show was a performance by Hedwig, not the everchanging sets, like in the movie. I had seen the movie many times, but never the actual stage performance. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the concept. As a lifelong member of stage crew, I was very impressed with some of their technical ideas. My favourite was the effect of having Tommy Gnossis' concert downstairs. Hedwig would open a door just off stage, and he would be blinded with white light. Much like Neo going into the source. Overall, the writing was excellent, using the concept of the Capitol's double theatre to support the Tommy/Hedwig plotline. The music was excellent, the singing was great. Ryan Hinds was amazing as Hedwig. After 10 minutes I completely forgot that he was black, because he was just so damn convincing. Hmmm, odd statement. Ah well. Kelley Mazda was great, and is definetely a master of visual comedy. This was a definite success, and I would gladly go back to see it again. I felt bad for Hinds, because after the show he was really beating himself up about his performance, when in fact, it was excellent. Alot of the things that he was disappointed with, turned out to be my favourite parts, mostly in part to Hinds' amazing ability to ad lib. A mic stand broke halfway through, which resulted in some pure gold, as Ryan flirted with an audience member. I think the broken mic stand should come up in every performance.

When we weren't watching Hedwig, we were staying at the Welcome Inn. If you've ever wondered about the Bates Motel being the scariest motel in history.......you're wrong. At least the Bates motel was clean, and in tip top shape. On our way to our room, we passed a ruin of one room that had burned to the ground, broken windows, pitchforks, a huge field, paintchipped walls everywhere, and sadistic looking lights that could be used to skewer people.

The room had an eerie echo to it, and the bedsheets concealed the underbed, to the point that it was disturbing. But here's the kicker. We are already freaked out about our surroundings, we have nowhere else to go, because we were dropped off there, then the shit started to happen. We go to phone Tama, and find out that the phone doesn't work. I get my cell phone, only to find that it has unexpectedly died, and low and behold........it begins to rain. Our window looks out upon a giant field, and all I can think of, is seeing some figure on the horizon slowly approach, or that if I try to run away, the motel will pop-up on the other side, "Identity-style."

I refused to go near the window after many horrorific flashbacks to Friday the 13th Part 2, or Part 3, where Jason crashes in through the window. I realized that I was not so scared of a real human being killing me, but more of Jason returning in "Friday the 13th Part 11: Steve Dies." I figured it would happen Part 1 style with something through the back, through the bed style. There was also a lamp that had weird metallic tentacles. I kept picturing the little arms moving, and growing a la "The Haunting."

It was all very surreal, and after staring into the empty mirror for about 5 minutes, waiting for my reflection to wink at me, thereby giving me the green light to freak out, I realized that I watch too many movies. When you relate about 30 different plots or horrific deaths to your own life in about 5 minutes, things get hazy, and the safety net of reality starts developing gashes.

To go along with my horror filled weekend, I went to Lick's on Friday. The one on eglinton next to Hooters. (Licks Hooters). I found out that Andy, who lives up the street, is working their as a cashier, and I give the man credit. That place gives me the creeps. For almost 19 years, I have gone by Licks' and for some reason, I have never looked inside. I thought it was a retro diner, not Satan's happy hour hangout. The world needs sadness, and anger in it. If you don't believe me, go to Licks where everything is "HAPPY......HAPPY.......HAHAHAHAHA." The food was bad, and I was damn glad to get the hell out of hell.

Truly frightening. If I had to live at Licks' or the Welcome Inn, I choose the Welcome Inn. (shudder) At least I know how to control the evil at Welcome. Buckets of water everywhere!

My friend went to see the show as well. She had nothing but raving reviews for it, and is definitely making me hope that it does come to Peterborough. The Welcome Inn is creepy! I can't believe you guys stayed there. I can definitely picture some vivid horror movie scenes running through my head thinking about that town.

I'm impressed anyone else actually knows the Welcome Inn!

I kept flashing back to Jason and Identity. The phonebooth in the rain. The field that should loop around me. It was all a little sketch. I really want to go back now with other people and scare the crap out of them, but with my luck, the phones will work.

My friend who saw it in Peterborough had said that the Best would be an excellent venue for it. I will definitely be spreading the word here... I'm sure it will do very well here! Good luck!
