The Time I've Lost. My God!!!!
Last night at 3am, the green cloak of technical difficulties left my world and I discovered that "The Green Channel" is back on the air. I was flipping through the channels after I got home from work when I found myself looking at an episode of Camp Cariboo.
When I was a kid, it was always just ending when I got home from school for lunch, and frankly I couldn't stand the show. I had watched it as a tot, but had developed a hatred for the half-assed production values. Now, however, I can't get enough of the "campish" look that I have known for so many years. The show is presented in a 1 hour format every 4 hours. The camp songs, the keeners, Uncle Wes, and the terrible jokes in Mail call, are all segments that make me feel younger.
Camp Cariboo actually provided me with half of my camping knowledge, which isn't much, and it also showed me what I missed when I stayed home every summer.
The show was hosted by Tom Knowlton and Mark Baldwin. If you watch the show, it looks like CKCO-TV just hen pecked two random camp counsellers who have nothing better to do than host a camp show. In reality, Tom Knowlton is a science teacher, television performer, and outdoor educator. Mark Baldwin is a psychology professor at McGill university, and I still have not gone out to McGill to meet him. I wonder if he has people in his class who were Keeners shirts, and correct him by saying, "Sir, shouldn't you have said 7.8 Niner!!!!"
