Kevin Smith should Keep Lee on a leash!

Click to Enlarge A Guy Thing is a hollywood movie. Get a bunch of up and coming actors, make it funny and you get some bucks. In this case, you have Julia Stiles, Jason Lee and Selma Blair involved in a plot surrounding Jason Lee. Lee is getting married to Blair, but the morning after his bacholor party, he wakes up next to Stiles. He then finds out that Stiles and Blair are cousins, and mayhem ensues. It's a harmless comedy, delivering a few laughs. There's not really much to this movie. The concept has been overplayed throughout the last 10 years, with sisters, best friends, and any other female, in place of the cousin.

The biggest kick of the film, was Lochlyn Munro. Yay. Canada. Thanks to TMN, I’ve seen a lot of Canadian movies. Therefore I’ve seen a bunch of Lochlyn movies. There was his film with Leslie Nielsen, Camoflouge, Dead Man on Campus, Night at the Roxbury, Kevin of the North, and Freddy vs. Jason, to name a few. Sometimes, he is sucked into the background (Freddy vs. Jason). Other times, he is the background but holds the movie together (Camoflouge). This is one of those movies. Despite his role as a cop, which he has been sadly type-casted into, he made the film interesting for me. James Brolin was a nice surprise, but he didn’t really do anything.

The good parts of the movie were when Stiles and Lee hit a bump in the street in their car, and flew a few feet. I liked it because I know it’s fun. The other part was the phone call to that department store, where the name of the movie is uttered (Another Hollywood trademark.). The biggest disappointment was Lee himself. It’s nice that he’s getting work as a leading man, but this is not a good film. Mumford was awesome, even got to see him skateboard (For those of you out there, he actually was a pro skater before acting.). I have yet to see a bad Lee/Kevin Smith collaboration to date, but Smith can’t make every Lee movie, so I digress. He’s made some good movies, Vanilla Sky (we’ll just move past that one), Almost Famous, and he’s made some barrels like Heartbrakers and Dreamcatcher, don’t even get me started on Dreamcatcher. I can’t wait for Jersey Girl.

The tagline for this movie was “Boy Meets Girl. Boy Meets Girl’s Cousin.” There’s the movie, plain and simple. I just wish they change it to, “Man sees movie. Movie ends. Man doesn’t care.”

"Why do I always play a cop?"
